AGC’s unique partnership with Make-A-Wish® South Dakota continues to make wishes come true for South Dakota kids with life-threatening medical conditions. Driving For Dreams allows AGC members, and other businesses with vehicles, to promote that their company supports Make-A-Wish. The three levels of annual support - $1,500, $3,000 and $6,000 – goes directly to supporting the cost of wishes. More than 40 vehicles are driving South Dakota’s roads with Make-A-Wish signage.
During the 2011-2012 fiscal year Make-A-Wish South Dakota granted a record 74 wishes, bringing the total wishes since 1984 to more than 980. Children have to be between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 and facing a life-threatening medical condition to qualify for a wish. According to Paul Krueger, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Dakota, Driving For Dreams is a critical source of revenue.
“Driving For Dreams brings in around $100,000 a year, important fundraising dollars to help make sure we can grant wishes to every eligible child referred to us,” Krueger said. “We are seeing an increase in referrals and the number of children we are working with. The average cost of a wish today is just more than $7,000. We are grateful for the support from AGC members and encourage others to join us.”
